This Australian wine purchased for 54 kronor at Systembolaget was one of those "Ohh I like the bottle!" moments. Because we all know, that when the price point is right and the alcohol percentage sufficiently high, the next thing we look at is how nice the bottle is. The mood in the corridor was quite nautical after working on a 1500 jigsaw puzzle of ships at sea in the common room for several days. Hence, when we saw "Regatta Bay" with the colorful boats covering the label, the purchase was a must.
Now personally, Chardonnays are not usually my favorite. To be a wine connoisseur for a moment, the oak and more mineral flavors of this darker white wine tend to make my face cringe. But here is how the tasting occurred:
- Daniel twists off the cap and smells the wine: first response "Ugh"
- We smell, sip, taste and slurp
- Upon first taste, we agree that the alcohol is strong but flavor bland. The alcohol percentage is 13.5, making it a nice wine if you want to get drunk. Which, as students know, is normally a main priority when drinking wine. There are some fruity flavors, but overall the first tastes seems to be not that exciting.
- As we continue to drink the tasting glass (we know that tasting cannot be done with a single ounce, if I use my American measurements), the taste improves. There are some nice young fruit flavors such as apple and the vanilla of the oak
- The after taste is also nice
- Shots/ drinking quickly is quite easy
- And finally, the tipsiness level after one glass is noticeable, definitely a quality working in this wine's favor.
Overall the ratings are:
Daniel - 3 out of 5
Katrina - 3 out of 5
